What is the largest city in the Alaska Time Zone?
Answer
Anchorage
Answer
Anchorage
Anchorage is the largest city in the Alaska Time Zone.
Anchorage is Alaska’s most populous city and lies in the state’s principal UTC−09:00 time zone. During daylight saving time, the zone shifts to UTC−08:00 and uses Alaska Daylight Time. The zone covers nearly all of Alaska, although the western Aleutian Islands use Hawaii-Aleutian Time instead.
Anchorage’s importance grew from transportation and infrastructure. A settlement developed near Ship Creek during construction of the Alaska Railroad in the 1910s, and the city was incorporated in 1920. It later became Alaska’s main population, business, transportation, and communications hub.
Fairbanks and Juneau are also major Alaskan cities, which can make the question seem less straightforward. Juneau is the state capital, while Fairbanks is a major Interior Alaska center, but Anchorage is larger than both. Nome is historically famous for the 1925 serum run and is far smaller.
