Which independent label released the Offspring's 1994 album 'Smash'?
Answer
Epitaph Records
Answer
Epitaph Records
The Offspring’s 1994 album “Smash” was released by Epitaph Records. It arrived on April 8, 1994, as the band’s third studio album and became a landmark release for independent punk music.
Recorded at Track Record in North Hollywood, “Smash” followed the band’s 1992 album “Ignition.” Producer Thom Wilson helped shape its direct, melodic punk sound, which powered songs including “Come Out and Play,” “Self Esteem,” and “Gotta Get Away.”
The album’s success was extraordinary for an independent release. It reached number four on the Billboard 200, became Epitaph’s first gold and platinum release, and ultimately sold more than 11 million copies worldwide. Its popularity helped bring punk rock and the developing pop-punk scene to a much larger audience.
A common mix-up is confusing Epitaph with Columbia Records. The Offspring signed with Columbia in 1996, but “Smash” itself was originally released through Epitaph.
