Which horse won the 2012 Dubai World Cup on Meydan’s all-weather track?

The story behind the answer

Monterosso won the 2012 Dubai World Cup on Meydan’s all-weather track. The Godolphin-owned horse was trained by Mahmoud Al Zarooni and ridden by Mickael Barzalona.

The 2012 race was the final Dubai World Cup run on Meydan’s Tapeta synthetic surface. From 2015 onward, the event returned to a dirt track, changing the conditions faced by horses seeking the world’s richest race meeting’s principal prize.

Monterosso had previously raced in Britain and the United Arab Emirates before producing his biggest performance in Dubai. His victory is sometimes confused with African Story’s 2014 success, which was the first Dubai World Cup run on Meydan’s new dirt surface.
