Blame won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.
The race was especially memorable because Blame defeated Zenyatta by a head in the final start of her career. Zenyatta had arrived unbeaten in 19 races, so the narrow result became one of the most discussed finishes in Breeders’ Cup history.
Blame was trained by Albert Stall Jr. and ridden by Garrett Gomez. His victory also secured the Eclipse Award for American Horse of the Year for 2010, ahead of Zenyatta.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic is a 1¼-mile race for Thoroughbreds and is usually regarded as the championship event of the American racing calendar. Curlin won the Classic in 2007, while Raven’s Pass won in 2008.
