Bahram completed the English Triple Crown by winning the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and St Leger in 1935.
Bred by the Aga Khan III and trained by Frank Butters, Bahram won all six of his races as a two-year-old and remained unbeaten at three. His Classic campaign began with victory in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, followed by the Epsom Derby and the St Leger at Doncaster.
Bahram became the ninth winner of the English Triple Crown. His achievement is sometimes confused with Nijinsky’s 1970 Triple Crown, the last horse to complete the feat. Bahram was later sold to American interests and stood at stud in the United States, where he sired notable offspring but did not reproduce another Triple Crown winner.
