Golden Miller became the first horse to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National in the same year, achieving the feat in 1934.
Trained by Basil Briscoe and owned by Dorothy Paget, Golden Miller won the Gold Cup at Cheltenham before carrying his success to Aintree. He won the 1934 Grand National by five lengths under jockey Gerry Wilson.
Golden Miller also won the Gold Cup four other times, making five consecutive victories from 1932 through 1936. His unusual double remains one of the most celebrated achievements in British jump racing.
The achievement is sometimes confused with Red Rum’s three Grand National victories, but Red Rum never completed this same-year Gold Cup and Grand National double.
