Which horror actor plays Victor Creel in Stranger Things season 4?

The story behind the answer

Robert Englund plays Victor Creel in Stranger Things season 4.

Victor Creel is an imprisoned Hawkins resident whose family tragedy becomes central to the season’s mystery. In the 1950s, Creel was accused of murdering his wife and children at the Creel House. When Nancy Wheeler and Robin Buckley interview him, he describes supernatural disturbances and insists that a demonic force was responsible.

Englund was cast in a recurring role for the fourth season, which was released in two volumes in 2022. His appearance deliberately connects the show to horror history: Englund is best known for playing Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street films. The casting lets Stranger Things use a familiar horror icon in a quieter, dramatic role rather than simply recreating his signature villain.

A common mix-up is confusing Robert Englund’s Victor Creel with Jamie Campbell Bower’s Henry Creel. Henry is Victor’s son and is eventually revealed as Subject One and Vecna. Kevin L. Johnson portrays young Victor in flashbacks, while Englund portrays the older, institutionalized Victor who tells the story of the Creel family massacre.
