Which holding company, led for decades by Warren Buffett, is listed under the ticker BRK.A?
Answer
Berkshire Hathaway
Answer
Berkshire Hathaway
Berkshire Hathaway is the holding company led for decades by Warren Buffett and listed under the ticker BRK.A.
Berkshire Hathaway began as a New England textile manufacturer. Buffett and his investment partners acquired control in the 1960s, and the company eventually shifted away from textiles toward insurance, investments, and ownership of operating businesses. Buffett became chairman and chief executive, making Berkshire one of the most closely followed companies in public markets.
The company’s Class A shares trade under BRK.A and are famous for their extremely high per-share price. Berkshire also created Class B shares, trading as BRK.B, with a much lower price and fewer voting rights per share. The two share classes represent the same underlying company but are not identical securities.
Berkshire’s businesses have included GEICO, BNSF Railway, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and numerous manufacturing and retail operations. Its market capitalization reflects both its investment portfolio and its collection of wholly owned businesses.
