Which Hogwarts house is J.K. Rowling’s favorite?

Hufflepuff is J.K. Rowling’s favorite Hogwarts house.

In the Harry Potter books, Hufflepuff was founded by Helga Hufflepuff and is associated with hard work, loyalty, patience, fairness, and a willingness to help others. Its house colors are yellow and black, and its emblematic animal is the badger.

Rowling has publicly expressed affection for Hufflepuff and has described it as a house whose members value inclusion and persistence. This differs from the narrative emphasis on Gryffindor, the house most closely connected with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Hufflepuff is sometimes treated as less important because the main characters spend more time in Gryffindor, but the series presents members such as Cedric Diggory as brave, capable, and principled. Rowling’s preference helped encourage wider appreciation of the house among fans.
