Which Hogwarts house did J.K. Rowling give the founder Rowena Ravenclaw?

The story behind the answer

In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter fiction, Rowena Ravenclaw founded the Hogwarts house named Ravenclaw. She was one of the four medieval founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Ravenclaw house is associated especially with intelligence, learning, creativity, and wit. Its emblem is an eagle, despite the house name referring to a raven, and its traditional colors are blue and bronze in the books.

Rowena Ravenclaw’s daughter, Helena, became the Grey Lady, Ravenclaw’s house ghost. A key story connected with the family is the lost diadem of Ravenclaw, which becomes important during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The other founders were Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin. Their names identify the four Hogwarts houses, so Ravenclaw is both Rowena’s surname and the name of the house she established.
