Ravenclaw is the Hogwarts house founded by Rowena Ravenclaw in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The house is associated with intelligence, learning, creativity, and wit, and its emblem is an eagle rather than the raven many readers expect from its name.
Rowena Ravenclaw is one of Hogwarts’ four founders, alongside Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin. According to the series, each founder valued different qualities when selecting students. The Sorting Hat places students into houses, while the house system shapes school identity, friendships, rivalries, and the annual House Cup.
A frequent mix-up concerns Ravenclaw’s animal symbol. In the books, the symbol is an eagle; the house’s colours are blue and bronze in the novels, although the films use blue and silver. The house’s diadem, later identified as a Horcrux, is also central to the final part of the story.
Luna Lovegood and Cho Chang are among the best-known Ravenclaw students.
