Which historical war provides the setting for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey?

The Peloponnesian War provides the historical setting for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The conflict between Athens and Sparta began in 431 BCE and ended in 404 BCE, although the game presents a fictionalized adventure within that period.

Odyssey takes place across the Greek world and follows a mercenary from the Spartan royal family. Players can choose Alexios or Kassandra as the controllable protagonist, while the broader story includes battles, naval travel, exploration, and encounters with figures from classical Greek history and mythology.

The game is set before the formal Assassin Brotherhood exists. Instead, its plot connects to the Cult of Kosmos and to an ancient artifact associated with the Isu. This makes Odyssey a historical precursor within the series’ chronology rather than a story about an established medieval Assassin order.
