Which historical setting is central to Assassin's Creed Origins?

The story behind the answer

Ancient Egypt is the central historical setting of Assassin's Creed Origins.

The game takes place mainly during the first century BCE, in the final years of the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Players explore locations such as Alexandria, Memphis, Cyrene, and the Giza plateau while following Bayek of Siwa.

Origins depicts Bayek's personal quest and the formation of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later becomes the Assassin Brotherhood. The story also features Cleopatra and Julius Caesar against the backdrop of Roman involvement in Egypt.

The setting is not the same as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which is centered on ancient Greece. Origins also changed the series with a stronger role-playing structure, including character levels, equipment rarity, crafting, and a large explorable map.
