Which historical revolution provides the setting for Assassin's Creed Unity?

The story behind the answer

The French Revolution provides the historical setting for Assassin's Creed Unity.

Released in 2014, Unity is set in France from 1789 through the early 1790s, a period marked by the fall of the monarchy, political upheaval, violence, and major social change. The game places the player in Paris during events including the Storming of the Bastille and the Reign of Terror.

Its protagonist is Arno Dorian, a French Assassin who becomes involved in the struggle after the death of his adoptive father. Arno's personal investigation runs alongside the wider conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.

Unity is sometimes confused with Assassin's Creed III because both games use revolutionary-era history. Assassin's Creed III is set during the American Revolution, while Unity focuses on France. The game also introduced cooperative missions that allow multiple players to work together in Paris.
