Which historical figure appears as Ezio Auditore’s ally and inventor in Assassin’s Creed II?

The story behind the answer

Leonardo da Vinci appears as Ezio Auditore’s ally and inventor in Assassin’s Creed II.

In the game’s Renaissance setting, Leonardo helps Ezio decode pages from the Codex and creates or improves equipment for his missions. His workshop moves with him from Florence to Venice, and his inventions include the hidden blade modifications and a flying machine inspired by his studies of flight.

The real Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, engineer, scientist, and inventor who lived from 1452 to 1519. Assassin’s Creed II fictionalizes his relationship with Ezio, but it places him among real Renaissance locations and personalities. Michelangelo and Machiavelli also appear in the game, which is why they can seem plausible as answers, but Leonardo fills the inventor role.

His presence illustrates the series’ recurring method of placing fictional protagonists alongside documented historical figures.
