Which hip hop duo consists of Killer Mike and El-P? The duo is Run the Jewels.
Run the Jewels formed in 2013 after El-P produced Killer Mike’s album R.A.P. Music and Killer Mike appeared on El-P’s Cancer 4 Cure. Their earlier collaborations led to a joint tour, and the success of that tour helped turn the partnership into a permanent group. The name came from a lyric in LL Cool J’s 1990 song “Cheesy Rat Blues.”
El-P, born Jaime Meline, is a Brooklyn rapper, producer and former member of Company Flow. Killer Mike, born Michael Render, is an Atlanta rapper whose recording career began with an appearance on Outkast’s Stankonia in 2000. Their different backgrounds became part of the duo’s appeal: El-P supplies much of the production while both artists rap.
The self-titled debut arrived as a free download on June 26, 2013. It was followed by Run the Jewels 2 in 2014, Run the Jewels 3 in 2016 and RTJ4 in 2020. Mobb Deep, Clipse and Black Star are also respected rap duos, but none consists of these two artists.
