Which Harry Potter novel was the final book in J.K. Rowling’s original seven-book series?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the final book in J.K. Rowling’s original seven-book Harry Potter series.

Bloomsbury published it in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2007. The story follows Harry, Ron and Hermione as they leave Hogwarts to search for Horcruxes and confront Lord Voldemort. It resolves major mysteries introduced earlier, including the significance of the Deathly Hallows and the history of several central characters.

The book was released simultaneously in many markets and became a major publishing event. Its title refers to three legendary magical objects: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak. These objects are distinct from Horcruxes, which are containers for fragments of Voldemort’s soul.

Deathly Hallows completed the original novel sequence, although the wizarding world later expanded through other books, plays, films and reference works. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a later stage play, not the eighth novel in Rowling’s original seven-book series.
