Which Harry Potter house is J.K. Rowling’s character Hermione Granger sorted into?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s character Hermione Granger is sorted into Gryffindor.

Hermione becomes one of Harry Potter’s closest friends after arriving at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She is portrayed as exceptionally intelligent, hardworking and resourceful, and her knowledge frequently helps the trio solve problems that magic alone cannot resolve.

Gryffindor is one of Hogwarts’ four houses. Its traditional traits include courage, nerve and chivalry, qualities Hermione demonstrates through her willingness to oppose dangerous forces and defend her friends. The Sorting Hat considers her for Ravenclaw before placing her in Gryffindor.

Hermione was born to Muggle parents and therefore enters the wizarding world without a magical family background. Rowling has said the character’s name was chosen partly because she wanted it to sound unusual and memorable, rather than like an ordinary schoolgirl’s name.
