Gucci is the handbag brand behind the Jackie, a hobo-style bag associated with Jacqueline Kennedy.
The design was originally known by other names, but it became widely linked with Kennedy after she was photographed carrying it. Gucci later formalized the Jackie name in recognition of that association. The bag is generally characterized by a curved, soft body and a piston-style closure.
The Jackie belongs to Gucci’s long history of equestrian and travel-inspired design. Gucci began in Florence in 1921 as a leather-goods company founded by Guccio Gucci, who had worked at London’s Savoy Hotel and observed luxury luggage.
The Jackie is sometimes confused with Gucci’s bamboo-handled bags. Bamboo refers to a handle material and design feature, while the Jackie is identified primarily by its curved silhouette and closure.
