Louis Vuitton introduced the Capucines in 2013, naming it after Rue Neuve-des-Capucines in Paris.
Louis Vuitton opened its first store on that Paris street in 1854. The Capucines therefore connects a contemporary handbag to the company’s earliest retail history. Its design is a structured top-handle bag, commonly recognized by a flap that can be worn inside or outside and by the LV initials.
The bag is made in several leathers and sizes, and it is positioned as a refined, formal handbag rather than a soft travel style. Its name is sometimes mistaken for a reference to a person; it instead comes from the Paris location.
The Capucines should also be distinguished from the Speedy and Neverfull, which are more directly associated with Louis Vuitton’s casual canvas accessories.
