Givenchy introduced the Antigona handbag during Riccardo Tisci’s tenure as creative director.
Riccardo Tisci became Givenchy’s creative director in 2005 and led the house for more than a decade. During that period, Givenchy expanded its accessories identity, and the Antigona became a major commercial handbag. Its name refers to Antigone, the figure from Greek mythology and classical drama.
The Antigona is often described as a trapezoid or structured duffel-style handbag. Its common features include sturdy top handles, a detachable strap, triangular side gussets, and a wide zip opening. It is distinct from the Nightingale, another important Givenchy bag associated with Tisci, which has a softer, more rounded construction.
