Louis Vuitton created the Soft Trunk, a small hard-edged handbag inspired by travel trunks.
The Soft Trunk is associated with Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton menswear collections. It adapts the visual language of traditional Louis Vuitton trunks into a compact shoulder or crossbody bag. Typical details include a rectangular shape, reinforced edges, metal hardware and a strap, combining luggage references with everyday portability.
The design belongs to Louis Vuitton’s long trunk-making tradition. Louis Vuitton began as a trunk maker in the nineteenth century, and later handbags often reused elements such as canvas patterns, corner protection and trunk-style closures. The Soft Trunk makes that connection especially direct through its boxy silhouette.
It can be confused with Louis Vuitton’s Petite Malle, another small bag based on the house’s trunk heritage. The Petite Malle has a more literal miniature-trunk appearance, while Soft Trunk versions are commonly identified by their softer construction and contemporary streetwear association.
