Fendi created the Baguette, a compact shoulder bag made famous by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.
Silvia Venturini Fendi designed the Baguette, which debuted in 1997. Its name refers to the way it can be carried under the arm, like a French baguette. The bag’s compact rectangular body and short shoulder strap helped make it distinct from larger tote and satchel styles.
The Baguette gained major cultural visibility through Sex and the City, where Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw carried many versions. The television association increased the bag’s recognition but did not originate its design.
Fendi was founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi. The house is also strongly associated with fur, leather goods, and its double-F logo, created by Karl Lagerfeld in 1965.
