Which gymnast won the women's individual all-around gold at the 2012 London Olympics?

The story behind the answer

Gabby Douglas won the women's individual all-around gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Douglas won the final on 2 August 2012 at North Greenwich Arena, finishing ahead of Russia's Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina. Her victory made her the first American woman to win the Olympic individual all-around title since Nastia Liukin in 2008.

The all-around competition combines scores from four apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Gymnasts first qualify through the team and individual preliminary rounds, but only the scores from the all-around final count toward the medal standings. Douglas delivered a balanced performance across all four events and finished with a total score of 62.232.

Her Olympic success came during a landmark Games for U.S. women's gymnastics. Douglas was also part of the American team that won the team all-around gold, becoming the first U.S. gymnast to win both titles at the same Olympics. Aly Raisman was a teammate and later won individual all-around bronze, while Simone Biles did not compete at the 2012 Games.
