Which guitarist was a key member of Bowie's Spiders from Mars band?

The story behind the answer

Which guitarist was a key member of Bowie's Spiders from Mars band? Mick Ronson.

Mick Ronson was the lead guitarist and a central creative force in David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars. He played guitar, sang backing vocals, handled keyboards and created important string arrangements during Bowie’s early-1970s breakthrough.

Ronson had already worked with Bowie in the earlier backing group The Hype. With bassist Trevor Bolder and drummer Mick Woodmansey, he formed the core of the Spiders from Mars, the band associated with Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust persona and the glam-rock albums of the period.

His role went beyond playing riffs. Ronson helped shape the dramatic arrangements and forceful guitar sound heard on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Aladdin Sane. His melodic, theatrical style later influenced punk and alternative rock guitarists.

Adrian Belew, Earl Slick and Carlos Alomar all worked with Bowie at different points, but they were not the defining guitarist of the original Spiders from Mars lineup. Ronson remained closely identified with the band until its 1973 breakup.
