Which group did Beyoncé belong to before beginning her solo recording career?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé belonged to Destiny’s Child before beginning her solo recording career.

Destiny’s Child formed in Houston, Texas, in 1990 under the earlier name Girl’s Tyme. The group eventually signed with Columbia Records and became one of the best-selling girl groups in music history.

The best-known final lineup consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Their major songs included “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” “Bootylicious,” and “Independent Women Part I.”

The group went on hiatus in 2002, allowing its members to pursue individual projects, and formally disbanded in 2006. Beyoncé’s first solo album, Dangerously in Love, arrived in 2003 while Destiny’s Child was on hiatus, creating an overlap between the group’s later period and her early solo success.
