Which group captured Joan of Arc near Compiègne in 1430?

The story behind the answer

Burgundian forces captured Joan of Arc near Compiègne in 1430.

Joan was captured on 23 May 1430 during a French attempt to defend Compiègne. The town supported Charles VII, while the Burgundians were allied with the English and opposed the Valois king.

Joan was seized by soldiers serving John of Luxembourg, a Burgundian commander. She was later sold to the English for 10,000 livres. The English arranged for her to be tried in an ecclesiastical court at Rouen, where they sought to discredit her religious claims and the French cause.

The Burgundians were not the same as the Armagnacs, the faction supporting Charles VII. That political conflict was part of the wider civil struggle inside France. Joan’s capture therefore resulted from both military campaigning and the rival alliances shaping the Hundred Years’ War.
