Which Greek mercenary is the canon protagonist of Assassin's Creed Odyssey?

The story behind the answer

Kassandra is the canon protagonist of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Odyssey lets players choose Kassandra or Alexios as the playable character, but Ubisoft identifies Kassandra as the canon Eagle Bearer in the game's broader continuity. She is a Greek mercenary who becomes involved in the Peloponnesian War and a family conflict spanning the Greek world.

The choice between Kassandra and Alexios changes which sibling the player controls. The other sibling still appears in the narrative, but the canon version of the story uses Kassandra as the protagonist. This distinction makes Alexios a plausible answer while remaining incorrect for a question about the canonical protagonist.

Odyssey was released in 2018. It is set in the fifth century BCE, long before the historical periods of most earlier mainline games. The title also emphasizes role-playing choices, dialogue options, naval travel, and exploration across ancient Greece.
