Which Gran Turismo game was the first to support PlayStation VR?
Answer
Gran Turismo Sport
Answer
Gran Turismo Sport
Gran Turismo Sport was the first Gran Turismo game to support PlayStation VR. The feature brought the series’ cockpit-focused driving perspective into consumer virtual reality, allowing compatible players to experience races and selected modes from inside the car.
The game’s VR support was more limited than some early announcements suggested. Gran Turismo Sport was initially presented as fully compatible with PlayStation VR, but the released implementation centered on a dedicated VR Tour Mode. A later update added VR access to time trials, expanding the ways players could drive in the headset.
This distinction explains a common misunderstanding: being the first Gran Turismo with PlayStation VR support did not mean that every campaign event or multiplayer activity could be played in VR. Gran Turismo 7 later introduced PlayStation VR2 support through an update for the newer headset, but that is a separate platform generation and does not change Sport’s place as the original VR entry.
