Which Gran Turismo game introduced the course maker (track editor)?
Answer
Gran Turismo 5
Answer
Gran Turismo 5
Gran Turismo 5 introduced the series’ Course Maker, its track-creation feature.
Released in 2010 for PlayStation 3, Gran Turismo 5 allowed players to generate original circuits by choosing a terrain theme and adjusting parameters such as course length, number of sections, corners, time of day, and weather. Created tracks could also be shared and used in multiplayer activities.
Despite often being called a track editor, Course Maker was not a full 3D design tool that let players draw every bend or place every object manually. Instead, it generated courses from player-selected rules, making custom-track creation accessible to ordinary players.
Gran Turismo 5 also introduced dynamic weather and time effects, kart racing, and licensed NASCAR and World Rally Championship content. Gran Turismo 6 later expanded the idea with its separate Track Path Editor application.
