Answer
Bar-headed goose
Answer
Bar-headed goose
The bar-headed goose is famous for migrating over the Himalayas between Central Asia and India.
It breeds on high-altitude lakes and wetlands in Mongolia, Tibet, and parts of Central Asia, then moves south to wintering areas in India and nearby regions. Its route can cross some of the world’s highest mountain terrain.
Researchers have recorded bar-headed geese flying at extreme altitudes, although many migrations also use valleys and mountain passes. The species has unusually efficient lungs, blood, and muscles that help it cope with thin, oxygen-poor air.
This goose is sometimes confused with the snow goose because both can form large migratory flocks, but the bar-headed goose is identified by its white head with two dark bars and its pale gray body.
