Which golfer won the 2023 U.S. Open?

Wyndham Clark won the 2023 U.S. Open. He finished at 10-under-par 270, one stroke ahead of Rory McIlroy at Los Angeles Country Club’s North Course from June 15–18, 2023.

Clark began the final round tied for the lead with Rickie Fowler and shot an even-par 70. He handled a tense closing stretch, including difficult recovery shots around the course’s challenging greens, to secure his first major championship and first U.S. Open title.

The victory was a breakthrough. Before the tournament, Clark had never finished better than 75th in a major and had missed the cut in his previous two U.S. Opens. His win came in only his seventh major championship start.

The championship also produced a memorable opening round: Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele both shot 62, an eight-under-par score that set a U.S. Open first-round scoring record. Fowler ultimately tied for fifth, while McIlroy’s runner-up finish extended his major-championship drought.
