Which golfer is the only one to have shot a 58 in a PGA Tour event?

The story behind the answer

Jim Furyk is the only golfer to have shot a 58 in a PGA Tour event. He posted the historic 12-under-par round during the final round of the 2016 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

Furyk opened with a 27 on the front nine, then added seven birdies and an eagle overall. He hit all 18 greens in regulation and finished with 10 birdies, one eagle and seven pars. The 58 lowered the PGA Tour’s previous single-round record and made Furyk the first player in Tour history to break 59.

The achievement is sometimes confused with other professional tours. Stephan Jäger shot a 58 on the Korn Ferry Tour shortly before Furyk’s round, and several players have since recorded 58s in other circuits. On the PGA Tour, however, Furyk remains the unique 58-shooter.
