Which golfer captured the Masters in 2011?
Answer
Charl Schwartzel
Answer
Charl Schwartzel
Charl Schwartzel captured the Masters Tournament in 2011. The South African finished at 14 under par, shooting 69, 71, 68 and 66 for a four-round total of 274 and winning by two strokes.
Schwartzel began the final round four shots behind Rory McIlroy, who had led after the first three rounds. He rapidly changed the tournament’s direction by chipping in for birdie on the first hole and making an eagle on the third. After falling back briefly, Schwartzel sealed the victory with birdies on each of the final four holes, an extraordinary closing sequence at Augusta National.
The victory was Schwartzel’s first major championship and made him the third South African to win the Masters, following Gary Player and Trevor Immelman. He won exactly 50 years after Player became the first international champion at Augusta. Adam Scott and Jason Day shared second place.
