Which Golden Age pirate was nicknamed “Long Ben”?
Answer
Henry Every
Answer
Henry Every
The Golden Age of Piracy pirate nicknamed “Long Ben” was Henry Every.
Every was an English pirate who became notorious after capturing the Mughal treasure ship Ganj-i-Sawai in 1695. The seizure produced enormous wealth and made him one of the most wanted men in the world. Unlike many famous pirates, Every disappeared from the historical record after the voyage, and his eventual fate remains unknown.
His name also appears as John Avery, a variation that can cause confusion in historical sources. “Long Ben” was a nickname associated with Every, not with Bartholomew Roberts, who was better known as Black Bart.
The reward for Every’s capture was exceptionally large, but no reliable evidence proves that he was ever arrested or identified under another name. His successful escape helped inspire later pirate legends and fictional stories about hidden treasure.
