Which god is the husband of the goddess Sif?

The story behind the answer

Thor is the husband of the goddess Sif in Norse mythology.

Sif is described in the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda as Thor’s wife. She is especially known for her golden hair, which is sometimes interpreted as an image of ripe grain or fields, although that symbolism remains a scholarly theory rather than a settled fact. Sif is also associated with family and fertility.

One famous story tells how Loki cut off Sif’s hair as a prank. Thor threatened Loki, who then arranged for dwarfs to make Sif a replacement head of hair from gold. The same episode led to the creation of several famous treasures, including Thor’s hammer Mjölnir, Odin’s spear Gungnir, and Freyr’s ship Skíðblaðnir.

Sif’s family connections can cause confusion. The sources identify Þrúðr as her daughter by Thor, while Ullr is called Sif’s son but Thor’s stepson, so Ullr’s biological father is not named. Marvel’s Sif is based on this mythological figure but adds fictional details.
