Which goalkeeper won the Golden Ball at the 2002 FIFA World Cup?
Answer
Oliver Kahn
Answer
Oliver Kahn
Oliver Kahn won the Golden Ball at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Kahn was Germany's captain and goalkeeper during the tournament in South Korea and Japan. He conceded only three goals before the final and made several important saves as Germany reached the championship match.
He became the first goalkeeper to receive the World Cup Golden Ball, the award for the tournament's best player. The achievement was especially notable because the award had usually gone to an outfield player. Kahn also won the Golden Glove for the tournament's best goalkeeper.
In the final, Brazil defeated Germany 2–0 in Yokohama. Kahn played despite a finger injury and was involved in the first Brazilian goal after failing to hold a shot. Ronaldo scored both goals. Kahn's Golden Ball remains a rare individual honor for a goalkeeper.
