Beyoncé led Destiny's Child before beginning her solo career.

The group formed in Houston in 1990 under the name Girl's Tyme and later became Destiny's Child. Its best-known lineup consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. The trio became one of the most successful female groups in recording history.

Destiny's Child released major hits including “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Say My Name,” and “Survivor.” Beyoncé began releasing solo material while still associated with the group, including songs connected with the 2002 film Austin Powers in Goldmember. Destiny's Child announced a temporary hiatus in 2002 and formally disbanded in 2006, allowing Beyoncé to focus fully on her solo career.
