Which French luxury group owns Yves Saint Laurent today?

The story behind the answer

Which French luxury group owns Yves Saint Laurent today? Kering owns the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house today.

The house was founded in Paris in 1961 by designer Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. Its ownership history later shifted through Sanofi and the Gucci Group before the business became part of the luxury portfolio now controlled by Kering. Kering acquired Yves Saint Laurent in 1999, when the group was still associated with François Pinault’s PPR empire.

A common mix-up concerns YSL Beauty. The fashion house is owned by Kering, but Yves Saint Laurent’s perfumes and cosmetics business was sold to L’Oréal in 2008. That separate arrangement is why both Kering and L’Oréal may appear in discussions of the YSL name. Kering’s fashion brand includes ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes and accessories, while L’Oréal handles the beauty license and products.
