L'Oréal owns Yves Saint Laurent's beauty division today.
The arrangement dates to L'Oréal's 2008 acquisition of YSL Beauté from the group then known as PPR, later renamed Kering. The deal covered Yves Saint Laurent's beauty activities, including fragrances, makeup, and skincare.
This ownership is separate from the fashion business. Saint Laurent's fashion house—known for ready-to-wear, leather goods, footwear, and accessories—remains a Kering brand. That split is the source of a common quiz mistake: Kering owns the fashion label, but L'Oréal operates the YSL Beauty business.
YSL Beauty sits within L'Oréal Luxe alongside prestige fragrance and cosmetics brands. The Yves Saint Laurent name and familiar YSL monogram therefore appear in two connected but separately controlled businesses: luxury fashion and beauty.
