The French electric supermini produced from 2012 to 2024 was the Renault Zoe.

Renault unveiled production-ready Zoe at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and customer deliveries began in France in December that year. Built at Renault’s Flins factory, the five-door hatchback was based on the Renault Clio’s platform but designed from the outset as a battery-electric car.

The Zoe evolved considerably during its run. Early cars used a 22 kWh battery, while later versions introduced 41 kWh and then 52 kWh packs. Renault also added more powerful motors, faster charging options and updated interior technology. The model became one of Europe’s best-known mass-market electric cars, particularly in France.

A common mix-up is confusing the Zoe with the Peugeot e-208, which is another French electric supermini but arrived later. The Citroën Ami is also French and electric, yet it is a tiny quadricycle rather than a conventional supermini. Renault ended Zoe production on 30 March 2024, with the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric taking over its role in the range.
