Which French driver won four straight World Rally Championship drivers' titles from 2013 to 2016?

The story behind the answer

Sébastien Ogier won four straight World Rally Championship drivers’ titles from 2013 to 2016.

The Frenchman claimed his first championship in 2013 after Volkswagen entered the top level with its Polo R WRC. Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia quickly became the team’s leading crew, combining speed with exceptional consistency across gravel, snow, and asphalt rallies.

Ogier successfully defended the title in 2014, 2015, and 2016. His fourth consecutive crown came at Rally Catalunya in October 2016, when he secured enough points with two rounds still remaining. He joined Juha Kankkunen and Tommi Mäkinen as a four-time champion at that point.

A common mix-up is Sébastien Loeb, another French rally legend. Loeb dominated the preceding era with nine consecutive titles from 2004 through 2012, but Ogier—not Loeb—won the four championships covering 2013–2016. Ogier later added titles in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2025.
