Which French autoroute connects Paris to Bordeaux?

The story behind the answer

Which French autoroute connects Paris to Bordeaux? The answer is the A10 autoroute.

The A10, also known as L’Aquitaine, runs for approximately 557 kilometers from the Paris region to the A630 ring road near Bordeaux. It is France’s longest autoroute and the main high-speed road linking the capital with central and southwestern France.

The route passes near or through important destinations including Orléans, Tours, Niort and Saintes. Much of it parallels the historic N10 national road, but the A10 does not follow that older road exactly; it diverges around several urban areas and follows a modern motorway alignment built for faster long-distance travel.

Most of the A10 is tolled, although some sections near Paris, Tours and Bordeaux are free. It also carries European route designations, including E5 along its length. A common mix-up is the A6, which connects Paris with Lyon and southeastern France, while the A10 is the Paris–Bordeaux axis.
