Which fragrance house launched Mitsouko in 1919?

The story behind the answer

Guerlain launched Mitsouko in 1919.

Mitsouko was created by Jacques Guerlain and is one of the landmark fragrances in the history of chypre perfumery. Its name was inspired by Mitsouko, a character in Claude Farrère’s 1909 novel La bataille. The story’s romantic triangle provided the perfume with a literary and exotic identity.

The composition is associated with peach, citrus, rose, jasmine, spices, oakmoss, and woody materials. Its signature peach-and-oakmoss impression helped make it a classic example of the chypre family, a style traditionally built around citrus, floral elements, moss, and woods. Formulas have changed over time as regulations and ingredient availability evolved.

Mitsouko is sometimes confused with Guerlain’s L’Heure Bleue or Shalimar because all three are historic Jacques Guerlain creations. They are separate perfumes with different launch dates and structures. Mitsouko’s literary name, peach effect, and chypre character are the clues that distinguish it.
