Which fragrance house created Poison, introduced in 1985?

The story behind the answer

Dior created Poison, which was introduced in 1985.

Poison was developed for Christian Dior by perfumer Édouard Fléchier and became one of the most distinctive launches of the 1980s. Its name, dark packaging, and strong personality deliberately contrasted with the lighter, more restrained styles common in some earlier mainstream releases.

The fragrance is generally classified as an ambery, floral, and spicy perfume. Plum, tuberose, spices, honey, and amber-like notes are often associated with its character, although note lists can vary by source and reformulation. Poison’s success helped establish a new generation of dramatic, high-impact perfumes.

The original Poison should not be confused with Dior’s later flankers, including Hypnotic Poison, Pure Poison, and Poison Girl. Those fragrances share the Poison name but have different compositions and launch dates. Poison also helped make bold, memorable naming and theatrical presentation important elements of late twentieth-century fragrance marketing.
