Diptyque launched Philosykos, the fig-inspired perfume created by Olivia Giacobetti.
Philosykos is one of Diptyque’s best-known fragrances and takes its name from the Greek word for “friend of the fig.” Olivia Giacobetti created the composition to evoke a fig tree, bringing together green leaves, milky fig fruit, woody accents, and the impression of sun-warmed Mediterranean vegetation.
The fragrance reflects Diptyque’s origins as a Parisian design and decorative-arts company. The brand was founded in 1961 by Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, Desmond Knox-Leet, and Yves Coueslant, and it began selling candles and home fragrances before becoming widely known for personal perfumes.
Philosykos is sometimes described simply as a fig scent, but its structure is broader than the fruit note alone. Different concentrations and product formats can emphasize the leafy, creamy, or woody aspects of the original idea.
