Chanel launched Coco Mademoiselle in 2001.
Coco Mademoiselle was created by Chanel perfumer Jacques Polge. The fragrance was named after Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, whose nickname and life story also inspired the earlier Chanel fragrance Coco, launched in 1984.
The 2001 perfume is generally described as a modern chypre with citrus, rose, jasmine, patchouli, and vetiver facets. Its presentation positioned it as a younger, lighter-minded interpretation of Chanel’s heritage while retaining a polished, sophisticated style.
Coco Mademoiselle is sometimes confused with Coco because their names are closely related. They are different perfumes with different launch dates and compositions. It is also separate from Chanel No. 5, Chanel’s 1921 fragrance created by Ernest Beaux.
