Which Formula One team was originally named Stewart Grand Prix?

The story behind the answer

Jaguar Racing was the Formula One team originally named Stewart Grand Prix.

Stewart Grand Prix was founded by three-time world champion Jackie Stewart and his son Paul Stewart. The team entered Formula One in 1997 with Ford factory backing and competed for three seasons. Its strongest year was 1999, when Johnny Herbert won the European Grand Prix and Rubens Barrichello claimed pole position in France.

At the end of 1999, Ford bought the team outright and renamed it Jaguar Racing for the 2000 season. The change made Jaguar Ford’s official works identity in Formula One, but the team retained much of Stewart’s personnel and infrastructure. Jaguar never won a Grand Prix, although Eddie Irvine finished second in the 1999 Drivers’ Championship while still racing for Stewart.

A common mix-up is with Red Bull Racing. In 2004, Red Bull bought Jaguar Racing and rebranded it, creating the team that became Red Bull Racing from 2005 onward.
