Which Formula One team was founded by Bruce McLaren?

The story behind the answer

The Formula One team founded by Bruce McLaren was McLaren.

Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander who had already become a Grand Prix winner with Cooper, established Bruce McLaren Motor Racing in 1963. The team initially competed in the Tasman Series and sports-car racing before becoming a Formula One constructor.

McLaren entered Formula One as a constructor at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Its early cars struggled with unreliable and underpowered engines, but the team’s fortunes improved with the Cosworth DFV. Bruce McLaren scored the team’s first World Championship Grand Prix victory at Spa in 1968.

Bruce McLaren died in a testing accident in 1970, but Teddy Mayer kept the organization moving forward. McLaren won its first Constructors’ Championship in 1974, with Emerson Fittipaldi taking the Drivers’ title. The team is sometimes confused with McLaren Automotive, the later road-car business; the racing team came first.
