Which Formula One champion was nicknamed "The Professor"?

The story behind the answer

Alain Prost was the Formula One champion nicknamed “The Professor.”

The French driver earned the nickname for his analytical, measured approach to racing. Rather than relying only on spectacular aggression, Prost carefully managed tyres, brakes, fuel and race pace, often building the decisive advantage late in a Grand Prix. His smooth style contrasted sharply with Ayrton Senna’s more dramatic, all-out image, helping create one of Formula One’s defining rivalries.

Prost won four World Drivers’ Championships, in 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993, and collected 51 Grand Prix victories during his career. He raced for teams including McLaren, Renault, Ferrari and Williams. His 1986 title was especially close: he narrowly beat Williams driver Nigel Mansell after a season-long contest.

A common mix-up is confusing Prost’s nickname with “Mr. Monaco,” which belonged to Graham Hill, or with Niki Lauda’s reputation as a highly calculating champion. “The Professor” is the canonical nickname associated with Alain Prost.
